Earthy Secrets Found - Weekly Tarot Horoscopes

April 30 - May 5

Mundane and ordinary seem to mark the week but don’t allow yourself to be fooled into the wrong direction. Perceptions about wealth and prosperity are at the center of activity. A seed has been planted that re-informs our culture about wealth. We are learning that wealth is not about money, necessarily, although money is included in the mix. The struggle with wealth and prosperity is about our perceptions swirling around value. When we don’t have a positive understanding about our personal value we don’t know how to attract the next level of value.

One of the more prominent cards in this weeks readings is the Queen of Coins or Pentacles. She’s a luscious, delicious card that speaks of prosperity in all its forms. Court cards can be used as significator cards, a way of identifying the person being read. She is a female earth card and reigns over her gardens. She has a green point of view and is connected with the Empress card. This energy and understanding is found in both sexes.

On the national and international fronts - look for more information about the food supply to surface. The local farmers movement will gain tremendous popularity to the point of gardens being placed in homeowner’s yards to supplement the local movement. Farmer’s markets will become a new hangout and center of the community, much like the cafĂ© and coffee surge of the last 10 to 15 years. The combination of coffee and local makes me hungry!

On the personal front, look for opportunities to connect with the element of earth. Digging, planting, and rolling around in it all work. Why do this? By connecting with an element you allow that information to seep into the subconscious and inform your mind of better ways to accomplish goals.

Manifest The Secret & The Science of Happiness

The practice of meditation is central to staying clear and directed in a crazy world. Many people struggle with incorporating meditation into their daily routine. So when I came across this book, I knew I needed to read it. As it turns out it could be the book that gets you turned on to the practice of meditation.

The book is called The Joy of Living-Unlocking the Secret & Science of Happiness. It is written by a Tibetan monk named Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. What’s great about this monk is that he is one of the brains scientists have been studying while the subjects are in meditation.

Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche has a wonderful easy writing voice and lots to say about the wonders of life. He not only talks about how to meditate and gives you simple exercises to try, he also reveals his own amusing learning experiences with meditation. You have to love this man for making it through the gauntlet of his youth.

He also talks about the science he has discovered during his work with the Dali Lama and the Mind and Life Institute, the partnership that brings together Buddhists and scholars in discussion with modern scientists. Drawing from the wealth of information this group generates, Rinpoche takes you on the most pleasant of journeys weaving Buddhist thought with science and back again to everyday life.

Here is a short snip of what he has to say about using our thoughts in meditation.

“Even after you make friends with your five senses and learn to use sensory input as a support for meditation, you may find some difficulty in dealing with the “crazy monkey,” the mental consciousness that enjoys leaping around, creating confusion, doubt, and uncertainty. Even if you learn to rest in simple sensory awareness, the crazy monkey mind will always be looking for new ways to interrupt whatever calmness, clarity, and openness you’ve achieved by offering a different and disturbing interpretation of events—a kind of psychological equivalent of throwing cushions around and gobbling up altar offerings. Difficult as it might be to deal with, the crazy monkey’s interference is not a “bad” thing; it’s simply a matter of entrenched neuronal patterns seeking to reassert themselves. The crazy monkey is essentially a neurologically programmed response to threats to human survival. Instead of getting angry, work with it. Why not generate a sense of gratitude toward its activity in helping us to survive?”

Authority Revealed - Weekly Tarot Horoscopes

April 23 - April 29

Authority figures are prominent in the horoscopes this week. Lets take a moment to identify the cards that would represent this.

The first and most prominent is the Emperor card. The Emperor can be read several ways. Most often it is seen as a fatherly figure, an authority figure or someone that has control in some manner. It also can refer to business and the business of business. Esoterically this card is about ORDER and REASON as in keeping an orderly mind and reasoning by means of putting into order and coming to a conclusion.

Other cards representing some form of authority, and more specifically who may hold the authority, would be the Kings and Queens of the court cards, the Justice card, the Hierophant card and to a lesser degree the 2 of Wands on the level of achievement.

We will see revealing information about authority figures floating to the surface daily now. Several ideas begin to take form in public perception. These ideas are not new but are being written and spoken about in a larger more encompassing manner. One is the idea that authority is a perception. There are many that understand this already but there are many that are being enlightened about this presently. The second is that authority is an earned “title” and not one given just because of a title, position or role.

Maintain your stability with a dose of inner peace and always remember you have the last say.

Did You Take the Challenge?

Hello - Checking in with all of you trying my challenge from last week. Thanks for your emails. Here are some comments that really hit home with me:

Marilyn from Salt Lake writes
"Have I always been this negative? I'm just shocked! How do I stop this?"

Ivan from U.K. says
"This is like bad song lyrics bouncing about in my head."

Yes, I know it is shocking. Especially if you tend to be an upbeat sort of person and you discover what is going on behind the scenes, as it were. Bad song lyrics are the worst!

What would you be doing in life if the negative thoughts were not there?

There are a number of techniques you can use to replace your negative thoughts. Each one of you will need to search for the one that works the best for you. Basically what you need to do is reprogram yourself. I know it sounds so sci-fi but the mind is reprogrammable. Look at it this way, when we develop bad habits that begin to cause problems - like sleeping with the lights on which does not allow you to get the proper sleep and can cause all sorts of issues or leaving your dirty clothes on the bathroom floor which can make that partner of yours pretty mad - we know that we must make changes or suffer. And so we go about the business of doing so, replacing the old pattern with a newer pattern until the old fades into the background. We do this throughout our lives - our parents knew if we sucked our thumb we would push our teeth into odd configurations as they grew in so they found ways of reprogramming you - my reward was a new bike and it worked! I've been thumb free for 43 years.

You can begin simply by replacing negative words with more positive ones.

Instead of the "I can't" you use "I can." Instead of "I don't" use "I do." Of course you will need to make sure you agree with what follows. Starting to reprogram your thinking this way makes you more aware, of everything. And that's the point, to become more aware. The great part of this are the changes that begin to happen in and around you, all for the better! There is a whole world waiting for you and begging for you to come live in it if you will just make the choice to do so.

It also helps to have another set of ears and eyes in the form of readings and horoscopes - hence the service I give freely to you. But other times it is necessary to seek professional help to untangle the web that we have become. Tough childhoods that include abuse and abandonment can be overcome and the negative programming can be reversed. Just look at Jack Canfield and Oprah among many others. Look for someone who listens well and asks the right questions, the questions that trigger a response in you. You will know when the right questions are being asked - you feel it in the pit of your stomach or solar plexus.

People ask what it is I do to reprogram myself.

I started with replacing the negative words just as I spoke of earlier. I have found that some form of daily meditation - be it a long daily walk, a yoga or physical movement program, traditional meditation or some moment of reflection like writing in a journal - help tremendously with keeping me on track.

I also read my own horoscopes. Yes I really do. I write these a week to 10 days before posting and sometimes a whole month before sending them off to you. After I have read them over for spelling errors I post them and I never intend to read them for my own needs but I find myself drawn to reading them later in the week, sometimes in the course of posting and writing these journal entries. And when I do I can't believe how spot on they are. They help as a reminder that there is more at work in our lives than our narrow focus reveals. If you keep this one idea in mind above anything it makes it sooo much easier to deal with perceived obstacles.

Walking labyrinths, using a healer, or working with reprogramming techniques like Reprogramming the Overweight Mindhelp too. Reprogramming the Overweight Mind can be used by anyone, by the way, because it lays out 7 steps to reprogram the subconscious. You can replace what needs to be said with your own needs and get alot out of this book.

The truth is you must become responsible and accountable for yourself and becoming aware of your negative thinking is a good place to start. When we become responsible for ourselves the world, our world, changes for the better.

Always keep your ultimate goal in mind! Blessings to all of you.

Make Me Smile - Weekly Tarot Horoscopes

April 16 - April 22

The message came loud and clear for me this week – all experience is nothing but information about us and for us. So the experiences you have are about you. Now, where does that leave the idea of it being about them? That becomes a dead end, doesn't it? Yes, sometimes other people’s issues become very clear and we recognize our role in their opportunity for discovery but their issues are not for us to judge. That is for them to deal with and this is where compassion comes in to play. Your job is to understand self better and sometimes you can do this by understanding others better. The issue of “them” is about the fear of addressing “you.”

How do you learn? How do you operate emotionally? Do you demand attention? Do you wait for attention? Do you pay attention? Do you really need to operate this way to have what you want? Will you attempt to discover what you can learn from experience or will you dwell in the fear and make it your home? Sometimes events are so deeply scarred within us that it takes an extraordinary amount of courage to face them and reclaim the rutted areas. It can be done. Facing self is about uncovering the divine within. Why would you not want to know the divine within? Who told you it wasn’t okay to know who you are and why would it not be okay to have what you really want?

Working on the challenge from last week? Try using this mantra when you catch yourself using negative thinking. “I can. I will. I do. I have. I am.” Use this the moment you recognize the negative thinking. Let it become your first response and you will physically smile when it pops into your head unrequested. A smile can change the world in a flash.

As always I dig for the foundation when I read the tarot cards so use my horoscopes as guides and live what you know is right for you.

Attract a New You

I have a challenge for all of you interested in using the Law of Attraction to your advantage.

Working with this law requires a lot of diligence and the ability to clearly state what it is you want. Faulty thinking is the bane of all who begin this work. When I say faulty I mean thinking that is confusing - you need to be stating what you want and not what you don't want. As tempting as it appears to be for all of us, defining what you want by stating what you don't want actually does nothing but give you what you don't want. I have no idea how double negatives work with the Law of Attraction but I would venture a guess and state that they are probably more confusing than just a simple negative and shouldn't be used either.

Become aware of your thought processes which are fed by what you say and what you think in your head. I challenge each of you to become aware of the use of negatives in your everyday speaking and thinking. Specifically negatives that are attached to verbs - can't, won't, don't, shouldn't, couldn't, wouldn't - you get the idea. And more specifically I can't, I don't, I won't, I shouldn't, I couldn't, I wouldn't. These are negative verbs and conjure negative actions.

What you want to use are verbs stating forward moving action - I want, I will, I can. So for the next week, starting right now, I want you to really listen to yourself speak and think - make notes and keep track of your adventures. Yes, you will start to notice everyone elses negatives as well but we aren't concerned with them at the moment. For now you concentrate on you because what you say to yourself is far more damaging than what everyone else is saying - of course that's probably no comfort to Don Imus at the moment but then they were negative comments so you get what you think.

I want to hear about your adventures with this, so please comment as you begin to eliminate your personal negatives.

At A Standstill? Blocked By The Boss? - Weekly Tarot Horoscopes

April 9 - April 15

The cards speak this week to an inordinate amount of feelings of being blinded or blocked in movement. Gauntlets and fine lines abound to be walked, danced, and rolled across. Here’s how I deal with situations like these.

Whether you are blocked or blinded you are generally feeling unable to move forward or in any direction you may think you need to go. Granted, someone may have decided they don’t want you to achieve movement and actually blocked you or it could be due to your own devices that you find yourself in a stand still. Truly it doesn’t matter which it is and here is why. Finding yourself at a standstill is an opportunity to stop and take a look around. (Warning: This may not work for race car drivers or anyone in the process of moving very fast. But you knew that, right?) Really, look around you, re-examine your situation and reformulate if you find you need to. If someone is blocking you then the ability to look around you can be used to your advantage – they actually have put you in the drivers seat. These are opportunities to regroup and get stronger if you choose to perceive them that way. Then again, maybe it’s all in your head. Perception is based on your own experiences and beliefs. Change those or re-arrange them and perceptions change.

All in all it’s a week of lists, traffic and delays. Find something to distract you or give yourself more downtime than usual. Keep your thoughts looking forward!

The Secret Is A Little On The Light Side - Surprised?

Hey all. I read The Secret over the weekend but wasn't impressed. The information was valid but it all seemed pretty slick and commercial and one of those books you read just because its made a big splash - it was a curiousity read for me. I found it to be lacking in key points.

The information in the book is entirely true from my experience but weak on supporting the actual process and a little too slick and marketable - I mean this from the standpoint of a coffee table book or a series of MacDonald's movie toys. Taking real action to change your thought patterns and harness emotion to "charge" those actions are extremely important aspects to working with the Law of Attraction. The book seemed stuck on the affirmation aspect of the process and frankly that plays a small role. You use it to help clear the muck of negative thinking and to keep yourself on track, more of a reminder than anything but it is not the guts of the process.

The Law is available to all but you need to know how to use it. You do need persistence, the desire to make changes and to know who you are, the ability to slow down and listen to your thoughts, and the willingness to accept what doesn't fit preconceived notions. This process can turn your world upside down. Digging around in your mind and emotions must be done with self acceptance and the knowing that your world will change in ways that may surprise you. It is definitely not for anyone looking for a quick fix. And that is what the marketing of The Secret seems to advocate - a quick fix and fast response if you need money. This is a lifestyle change and requires a shifting in consciousness.

Oddly, there is one line in the book, tucked away in a later chapter, that encourages the reader to "Let go of the past, cultural codes and social beliefs." This call for change is weak at best and a mind blower that it even shows up. I am waiting for the conservative right to ban this book because of this statement. Let me know if you spot this happening.

Read this one at the bookstore or check it out from the library if it ever ends up there. Ignore the website. If you are new to these concepts test the waters and start small with attracting what you want and remember action is the vital ingredient as is getting a clear picture of what you want. You must take steps to move toward the goal you have in your mind's eye and step out of the comfortable spot you are in. Yes, you will fall down, just laugh at yourself and get back up and begin again. Experiment with what works for you in changing your thoughts - it will be different for everyone.

All the Law of Attraction says is that you attract what you are (what you think and focus on). If you don't like what's going on in your life you can change it.

Live well and remember, you have all the answers you need within you. All you have to do is ask for them to reveal themselves.

Major Shifts Ahead! - Weekly Tarot Horoscopes

April 2 - April 8

A preponderance of the Major Arcana is always a reason to take a second look at any reading of the tarot cards. This weeks horoscopes are full of Major Arcana, my jaw continues to drop as I look at what turned up. What’s the big deal you might be asking? The Major Arcana are concept cards. In general, they identify levels of consciousness, universal laws, and the general outcome of events when law and consciousness are linked. Depending on where one pops up in a reading, the indication is ususally of deeply rooted ideas being tugged on by the internal workings of the person being read. This can mean major changes in attitude, lifestyle, or behaviors. It does not mean, however, that changes are immediately obvious.

My general advice is to keep your eyes open and pay attention to how you are feeling. Check in with your feelings at least several times a day. More often is better. Personal experience has taught me that when my feelings rise and stay at elevated levels for long periods of time, something is a foot internally and I need to pay attention. Habits die hard and are not happy to be asked to leave. In fact, they will continue to come knocking until you are completely resolved against them. Look for ways to change your patterns of thinking and allow the information rising upward and outward to inform you. There is nothing to fear here except the loss of something you don’t need any longer.

The Secret was on my reading list this weekend and I am happy to say that I was successful in knocking that one off my list. I am still mulling over my response to it and will put fingers to the keyboard in the next day or so. I will post and ping when my response is ready. Keep a look out for a mid-week blog entry. In the mean time, Enjoy the week ahead and fill me in when you can.
