Seems a lot of people are searching for information on reversed tarot cards as many of you land here looking for interpretations. Although each card based on the traditional tarot deck has a particular meaning, I find that the meaning of the card is tweaked by the context it is found in.
Here are some ideas about how to interpret them:
See the whole - Take the focus off of the single card and view reversed cards as part of the whole reading. Check the visual of where they are placed in the reading, particularly if you are attuned to read the color and shapes in the cards. Readings come alive when reading the movement of the characters in the cards from past to present to future.
Read the energy - Often a reversed card indicates a change in the movement of a situation, turning the energy in a different direction. Sword cards are particularly tuned to this movement as are the cup cards. Look at a sword or cup card upright and then in reverse, or upside down. The swords drop out of whatever they are stuck in. The cups release whatever they hold. In many instances this might very well be a good thing.
Remove your panic button - Many of us learning to read absolutely panic when we see certain cards, especially when we first begin reading. You must understand that every experience is an opportunity and every door a new path to travel. There are no bad cards, only information. Could it be that it is time for a change in your life? Maybe that relationship you are hanging on to out of fear is really not good for you. Maybe the reversed card is telling you things are at a crossroads and your attention is required. Get the facts then act - don't react.
Remember tarot cards are representative of our living, breathing, moving lives. To read them in a static and rigid manner leaves vital observation and information out of the picture. If you don't like what you are seeing, check the messages you are sending out into the universe. It may be time to change them.

Cutting Loose From The Past - Weekly Tarot Horoscopes
May 28 - June 3
We are less than a month away from Summer Solstice and the energy begins to noticeably build during this time period finding its final dispersing and redirection during Solstice. Letting go of past hurts, snubs, and losses is important when facing any Solstice or Equinox. It is a theme in this weeks tarot horoscopes.
Letting go allows for more room to grow and harvest the focus and intention you have given your thoughts. If you are working with attracting a particular event then look for some fruition or sign of a coming result during Solstice. The energy during that time is focused on result - it is Solar power.
We will also be moving from Gemini into Cancer, from sword energy into cup energy. If you are studying along with my horoscopes then reviewing the cups and swords of the minor arcana will be helpful. Pull both sets out of the Rider-Waite deck or a Universal deck and make 2 rows in numerical order putting Aces first, then 2’s, then 3’s, etc. Put swords on top and cups on the bottom. Contemplate what you are seeing top to bottom, air into water, swords into cups, masculine into feminine, positive into negative – there is a balancing here.
Now flip the rows and put the cups on top and the swords on the bottom. Make note of what you are seeing and feeling and feel free to ask me questions. There are no “right” answers here just observations.
Also note that Solstice is the beginning of harvest season and harvest season builds into autumn. Here in Albuquerque we have started our Farmer’s Markets and are looking forward to our beloved summer. Everyone here knows that when Autumn rolls in so do the cold, cold mornings so we like to soak up the rays as long as we can. We are highly inventive when it comes to our local sun worship.

Is The FDA Killing The Lovers?
I’ve been watching the FDA's approval of the no cycle pill that is being pushed on the fertile female population and I have to say I’m seeing fascinating possibilities right along side horrorific problems.
From an esoteric standpoint it is rather disturbing to see the female cycle being pushed underground like this. Take a look at the Lovers card. When spirit comes into physical form it is split into feminine energy and masculine energy. Feminine energy represents the subconscious and masculine energy represents the self-conscious (the angel is the superconscious in case you were wondering.) Our bodies take the form of one or the other and some people are blends of both. Our bodies may represent one or the other but creating cannot happen without one or the other hence we have both internally. One of the energies is not better than the other; it is not superior to the other and it is not dominant to the other. Both have roles to play in creating.
We each have masculine and feminine energy inside of us. I say inside of us because we have never found an adequate way of describing the process of masculine and feminine energy in the feeling and thinking process. Hence the problem with this new pill – are we attempting to displace the subconscious by masculinizing the feminine? And if so, what does that mean? Are women so out of touch with the mysteries they hold that they are willing to destroy them instead of traveling the path of discovery? Has society decided the menstrual cycle is taboo and so we must remove it? Is removing the possibility of pregnancy compensating for the lack of sex education? What is it women believe about themselves and about their masculine aspect? What is it that men believe about the feminine aspect of themselves?
On the other hand, there are many that believe we are becoming androgynous and eventually we will blend masculine and feminine to the point of not looking like either one in particular. This opens a myriad of possibility. Will we then be able to shape shift and become what we need to be for the moment? Wow, that might be the coolest thing ever. It certainly would challenge online gaming. Why bother paying a fee to pretend when you really can? Will we be able to disguise ourselves like the undercover cops in A Scanner Darkly?
Medically and psychologically I think this proposes another whole set of issues. You are playing with hormones here and having been a guinea pig for Depro Provera in my early 30’s I can tell you it’s not a good idea, especially when there is no emotional support for the process. Although not having a period was liberating in many obvious ways, the weight gain was something that absolutely threw me not to mention the psychological aspect. My understanding of who I was, of the role I played socially and physically became very blurred when the hormones weren’t there to create it for me. I had no tools to understand what was happening and I became very uncomfortable psychically - I just didn't feel right some how. In fact, the hormones are what make us male and female so what the heck are we doing to ourselves? Can this be safe? Is it a smart thing to do?
I know as a student of the occult world that we aren’t changing a thing in many respects – creating still happens the same way it always has, it just is. My observation is that we are changing the appearance of the process and making it more difficult to really “see” and understand the truth. We can change the way we think and that changes what we manifest but we can’t ultimately change the base process.
What do you think is the underlying message here? Is this an attempt to control the population in general or a particular portion of our population? Is it all about our societal views of nature vs man or is it divine evolution?

Can You Remove the Chains That Bind You? - Weekly Tarot Horoscopes
May 21 - May 27
The Devil made me do it! Ya, right. It's an excuse many people may not express outwardly but they believe on some level - that they are not responsible for their actions.
At some point during the process of studying these cards you begin to realize the beauty in all of them. Not necessarily the actual art work as beautiful, the Devil Card being the nastiest looking card in the deck. No the beauty comes from understanding the role each card plays in our personal existence.
This week the opportunity to separate and release and move on with life is strongly pushed. How does the Devil play into this? The Devil card represents what happens when we attach in an unhealthy way to the physical – people, objects, events, and scenarios we create in our heads. This happens when we don't take responsibililty for our selves.
Notice in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck that the male (self-conscious) and the female (subconscious) are chained to the throne the Devil sits on. Take a closer look and you will see that the chains around their necks are easily removed. All they have to do is reach up and do so.
It really is that easy to make change. The obstacles and the excuses we use are all in our heads. Granted the obstacles and excuses are very real in many cases. There may be financial difficulties that must be addressed or cultural or location issues that get in the way but all of it can be overcome, all of it.
Here are some ways to start the process:
Don’t figure out how to make it happen, just decide you want it. By deciding the goal and formulating the words to express the goal you are on your way. The tough part is removing the “worry” or “concern.” The next idea can help.
Replace old thoughts with new ones. This takes persistence and dedication. It also takes the ability to “hear” your self. Once you begin to be persistent with replacing your old thoughts with new ones you begin to actually feel what the old way of thinking was doing to your ability to achieve. Start with listening to your self in conversation with others and in your head.
Start with one change and make it a habit. So you want to lose all that extra weight. You struggle and struggle with it and lose some then gain it back. Erase all of that and start with one change. Spend a year at this one change and make it a habit. I personally removed sodas and sugary drinks from my diet. I drink only water, herbal teas and fresh juice. I also have removed vending machine food and fast foods. Adapt this idea to all the changes you would like to make. You might find that in implementing one change you start an avalanche of change.
The Devil card is drawn the way it is to get your attention.

How to Start Being Conscious - Weekly Tarot Horoscopes
May 14 - May 20
Observation is vital to correct reasoning. If you don’t step back to watch and listen you aren’t getting the complete picture. And the complete picture is necessary before making a choice – the best choice for you. This week the horoscopes repeatedly point to the need for observation in becoming more conscious of the world around you.
Here are some ideas about how to approach observation for those of you who rush into things (I think that is probably all of us).
Wait. Before you jump into a conversation, before you open your mouth, mentally stop yourself and count to 10. Your jaw may push forward attempting to speak. You may feel a jerking sensation in the body – its attempt to respond. You may even have emotion rise upward to your chest. All of these things are a learned response. If you are so focused on getting a word in edgewise you aren’t observing.
Listen. Next time you find yourself in public look for a comfortable place to park yourself and spend some time listening. Listen to everyone around you, their conversations, their voices, their inflection when they speak. Can you pick out the ones attempting to manipulate? What about the ones playing victim? Or the ones trying to control the conversation. Mull over what you are hearing. Do you sound this way? Which conversations were you drawn to? Consider why.
Choose words carefully. In a conversation this week make a point of observing yourself and the person you are conversing with. Is it mindless information? Are you a talker or maybe the other person is. Do you really want to spend the rest of your life saying nothing?
Learn to act and not react. Spend some time looking at the Hierophant card and the Chariot card. The Hierophant corresponds to the faculty of HEARING. The Chariot corresponds to the faculty of SPEECH. Both images can assist you in unlocking the secrets of those faculties.

Want To Make Real Change? Stop Making These 5 Mistakes
The book THE SECRET has really gotten a lot of mixed attention. Many rave about it and others scoff and even those that actually try it and have some level of success just can’t seem to wrap their whole minds around the concept of getting what you want by changing your thinking; they think their success was a fluke or a coincidence. My own review acknowledges some of the shortcomings and fallacies in THE SECRET.
In my own interpretation, the Law of Attraction simply states - you are what you believe you are. You are what you think and therefore you create and attract exactly whatever you focus on and give action to. You can change the circumstances of your life simply by changing your thinking.
Now that a span of time has elapsed since I reviewed the book, I thought it might be helpful to revisit the idea of the Law of Attraction by outlining the top 5 stumbling blocks you can face when you begin to acknowledge and use the Law. I have dealt with these stumbling blocks personally and with clients in my tarot practice.
Belief Systems - Are you aware of what your belief systems are? Are you aware how they help you or how they might hinder you in the pursuit of creating your perfect life? If your belief systems require you to focus in a negative manner about yourself or what you can accomplish, you probably need to make some personal changes. A false premise creates a false result and so if you are still dragging around your parent’s or society’s beliefs maybe it's time to get your own.
Mental Control - Your mind wanders, it is very good about creating scenarios and playing on your fears, it doesn't want to obey. In order to gain better control it is necessary to find a way to quiet the mind, to slow it down, to give it a rest. Examine your habits and replace anything that is feeding your mind garbage - limit your viewing of television, violence, and the nightly news. Try a breathing practice, a movement practice, yoga, meditation, simple stretching or a form of thought focus. Give yourself a mantra to focus on when your mind starts creating its crazy monkey antics. "I can" is a great one.
Action - You can focus all you want but if you don't take action nothing will change. If you want to make a lot of money and you sit on your ass at home and focus and visualize, at some point the creditors are going to show up and take away everything you've got. You'll be sitting on the street corner begging before you know it and “dishing” the Law of Attraction. Why? Because you took no action and action is required. Without action it's just wishing.
Discernment - People who don't listen well make lousy observers. People who are unable to observe will never reason well. You must be able to listen and observe if you are going to use the Law of Attraction to your advantage because you must be able to reason and impose order especially on your mind. If you are reasoning well then a false premise has little chance of getting into the mix. So stop talking and observe the world and people around you more.
Silence - This, in my opinion, is the ultimate key to using attraction and getting what you want but it is a huge stumbling block for many people. It seems to stem from the need to please and to let everyone know what you are doing. Both reasons need to get tossed out the window. People have a tendency to destroy anything that appears threatening to them for a variety of reasons but mostly because of fear so don't tell people what you are doing. They don't need to know you are using mantras or meditating, or creating an incredible life for yourself.
By using silence as a tool you will more easily discern your belief systems. You will know better what action to take. You will gain a new level of control over your mental processes. You will become a better listener and observer.

Secret Scents - Attract the Lovers Card
People who don’t believe synchronicity, or serendipity, is a real phenomenon and want to chalk everything up to coincidence, do they believe there is a higher power, God, or a divine source of energy we all come from? If they do I would love to know how they think a divine power would communicate with us. After all, we are spirit in a body (or genie’s in a bottle if you will) and when we need to hear from “home” how does it happen?
Okay, Melissa, what tangent are you off on now and what’s this got to do with tarot? Allow me to explain.
I have been conducting intense research and meditation with the Lovers Card over the last several weeks. Last Saturday I headed for the local library for my twice a month visit - I read a great deal, all kinds of topics, as you will see. I have always practiced what I call “book magic” or “library magic.” I just roam the shelves until I find a book or books that interest me. I rarely choose a topic before starting my book magic. It’s amazing how dead on the books I find are to the personal and internal life I am leading at the moment of choosing the book. It never ceases to amaze me when it happens – sometimes before actual national and international events occur as well - and I am always so incredibly grateful for the information and the experience.
The funny part of it – I usually don’t know from the title or subject that the book is going to match up or have not made the connection until after the fact. It’s the one aspect of my esoteric journey that I wish I had documented as it has been happening for a good 40 years but alas it never occurred to me that it was important other than to amuse me and help me over a bump in the road.
Getting back to the Lovers Card. One of the book’s I checked out was about Marie Antoinette and her perfumer, A Scented Palace - The Secret History of Marie Antoinette's Perfumer.
It seems that the perfumer kept a diary of his business and his ascent into the French court and ultimately into the Queen’s personal circle. It’s a fascinating quick read – I got enamored with all the scents and combinations of scents, not to mention the fashion and intrigue. He even describes some of his recipes, in passing of course. Well, guess what I found out after I brought the book home and started reading? The Lovers card is associated with the sense of SMELL!
Now it isn’t earth-shattering information but it is a reminder that spirit moves in mysterious ways and maybe not spirit so much as the subconscious. It tells me that filling my mind and my thoughts with the LOVERS card and its imagery pulled me to topics related to the information and I realized in a flash of a moment, I need to begin working with scents to trigger meditative states.
Look for moments like this in your own life. I know they are there. But remember if you are preoccupied with topics that are counter to what you want to achieve then you will attract that instead. First, you need to become aware of what your mind is occupied with!
